I want to make sure you saw today’s announcement that 270 Founding Partner Jeremy Bird has taken on a new role as Vice President of Public Engagement at Lyft. And I have no words to describe how bittersweet we all feel about parting ways with Bird — or how proud everyone in the 270 family is about everything he has accomplished. This next chapter is a big deal for our co-founder. But most of all, we are grateful.

Jeremy’s vision and relentless optimism helped take 270 Strategies from the seed of an idea to the powerhouse consulting team I’m honored to lead today. I never could have imagined this is where we would end up when I first met Bird back in 2004 training grassroots organizers together for the DNC. Over the years, first campaigning for Barack Obama, and later supporting the hundreds of social justice, education, corporate, and political clients served by 270 over the past seven years, I’ve been blessed to call him my colleague, business partner, and friend. Today, his people-centered approach to organizing — and values-driven professional ethos — has become a defining part of both our company culture and the work we do for all our clients. I speak for all of the 270 partners and our broader team when I say we have no doubt that he will never stop fighting to make the world a better place.

While we will miss Bird dearly, 270 Strategies will continue to help people build power to do big things — just as we always have.  2019 has been a busy and inspiring year for all of us.  We worked with advocates committed to ending global poverty. We partnered with business leaders and activists to ensure that our presidential candidates prioritize expanding economic opportunity for Black Americans. We trained local organizations around the country to help ensure the 2020 Census is fair and accurate. Abroad, we supported GOTV efforts for the largest single day of voting in the history of mankind. And we helped countless nonprofits and advocacy groups develop strategic plans to engage and mobilize people to take action in their own communities — to improve our health care, education system, address climate change, end gun violence, and so much more.

In 2020, we’ll be working to expand health care access around the country, partnering with local education advocates to improve public education, and fighting to defeat Mitch McConnell and remove the final roadblocks to passing gun violence legislation through the Senate. And, we will do everything we can to contribute to the broader 2020 election cycle, the most important and decisive in our lifetimes.

As we approach Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for, even in the midst of dark times for our democracy. It is such a privilege to do this work — and to partner with many of you to change the world. Thank you for being part of the 270 community.
